Jeffrey Mansion - Alcohol Policy

Starting January 1, 2013, alcohol will be permitted during rentals of Jeffrey Mansion.  With the passage of Ordinance 45-12 on August 28, 2012, Bexley City Council provided the framework from which a Jeffrey Mansion Alcohol Policy could be crafted.

As of December 4, 2012, tentative online requests for reservations for Jeffrey Mansion will NOT be permitted with this new policy, whether the event has alcohol or not. Tentative requests will still be permitted for Shelter Rentals.

The Recreation and Parks Department Administration along with the Recreation Board have been working closely with City Officials to create an alcohol policy for Jeffrey Mansion. The primary focus has been to work toward a policy that helps the city to balance current recreational programming use with the efforts to maximize Jeffrey Mansion as an event facility, and to introduce alcohol to the facility in a responsible manner that takes steps to protect Jeffrey Park visitors, the surrounding neighbors, the Bexley Community as a whole, and the interests of the City of Bexley.

The alcohol policy provides the following restrictions in an effort to protect the interests of our community:

 1)      Only Bexley Residents can rent Jeffrey Mansion for an event with alcohol.  They can rent the facility for their own event or as a sponsor of a non-resident’s event.  Either way, the Bexley Resident will be the permit holder and responsible for the facility and the event participants.

2)      Any event with alcohol will require at least one special duty police officer on premises for the entire length of the event.

3)      Alcohol will be strictly limited to designated areas.  Clear signage will be posted during events.

4)      Alcohol events will be limited to Friday-Sunday.

5)      Distribution of alcohol must be done through a Jeffrey Mansion Preferred Caterer.

As the allowance for alcohol at Jeffrey Mansion is a significant policy change, we will be constantly evaluating the program to ensure that we are maximizing the facility while protecting the interests and safety of our community.  In addition to the continued administrative evaluation process, there will be a yearly formal review of the effectiveness of the policy by the Recreation Board.

We are excited to be able to offer this new option to our residents as they look to celebrate the many events that life provides.  Jeffrey Mansion is a very unique and special place and it is our hope that this policy will help to enhance everything that this building offers our community.
