Announcing BexALERT Active Notification System

The City of Bexley is pleased to announce the launch of the City’s BexALERT Active Notification System, which is being launched in partnership with a county-wide mass notification and warning system, ALERT Franklin County.

Bexley residents are now able to opt-in to receive critical information in real time via text message, phone (home, cell or business) and email. Residents can opt in to receive timely alerts from Franklin County Emergency Management System, as well as messages targeted from the City of Bexley for Bexley residents.

“We’ve been exploring mass notification systems for several years, and about a year or two ago we became active with Franklin County’s effort to create a County-wide system that would also allow individual cities such as Bexley to provide information specific to our resident base,” said Bexley Mayor and Safety Director Ben Kessler. “The BexALERT/ALERT Franklin County partnership allows us to tailor messages to residents based upon what they want to be notified about.  By cooperating with a regional product like this, we see substantial cost savings and ultimately end up with a better product.”

“ALERT Franklin County will enable us to reach residents in Franklin County simultaneously through many different channels and ensure everyone receives timely and accurate information,” said Michael R. Pannell, Director of Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security. “FCEM&HS will warn the citizens of Franklin County on severe weather, dam failures, terrorism, major hazardous material incidents, major aircraft accidents, significant civil disturbance, major utility disruptions, damage producing earthquakes and other significant warnings as warranted by the Director.”

BexALERT/ALERT Franklin County is fully customizable: residents can elect to receive emergency notifications about severe weather and disasters as well as location specific information regarding active crime alerts, road closures, transportation incidents, utility outages, government closings and other important community news. The City of Bexley will be able to target notifications based upon the area of the City impacted and will be able to send information relevant to a broad spectrum of City functions, dependent upon what a resident elects to receive.
