2018 Community Update

Put names to faces, see the facts & figures, and catch a glimpse of what’s on the horizon in Bexley!

This community update highlights projects and initiatives our city focused on in 2017, what we’ve been up to in 2018, and what we’re looking forward to in 2019.

Jeffrey Mansion Update

Jeffrey Mansion was gifted to the City of Bexley in 1941, and has functioned in many different ways over the 70+ preceding years during which it has served as a community facility.  Did you know that at one time the basement of the mansion was used by the Bexley Police Department as a practice firing range?  In its early years Jeffrey Mansion functioned much like an informal community clubhouse, where residents would meet casually to play games, gather, and build community.

Info on the Bexley Issue 12 Replacement Levy

The City has placed a 3.5 mill replacement levy “for the purpose of constructing, reconstructing, resurfacing and repairing streets, alleys, sidewalks and other similar improvements” on the ballot in November.  Issue 12, when coupled with the City abandoning a 3.4 mill operating levy from 1974, will cost an additional approximately $50 per $100k of valuation per year.  The current street levy was passed in 2003, and provides the same dollar amount today as then, even as construction costs have risen year over year.  Engineers have estimated that 40 of Bexley’s 86 lane miles are in “fair” to “poor” condition.  To learn more about the levy, please visit one of the upcoming candidate forums (such as the October 17th event at the Bexley Public Library), or search the internet for information from public sources and any groups for or against the proposed ballot issue.
