Overdue Fines No More! (After July 1st)

In recent years, Bexley Public Library (BPL) has taken steps to minimize the impact of overdue fines on patrons. The impact of auto-renewal has significantly lowered fees generated from overdue fines, and libraries such as Worthington Libraries and Columbus Metropolitan Library have already gone fine free.

Fines will be eliminated on overdue materials checked out on or after July 1, 2017. Fines accrued before July 1 will not be waived. Fine-free status applies only to items checked out at Bexley Public Library. Patrons should be aware of the specific lending policy of each library they use, as they may differ.

Bexley Public Library will still work to recover lost or missing items. As is already the case, if an item is 35 days overdue, it will be deemed lost and the patron will be charged a replacement fee. This fee will be removed if and when the patron returns the item, although a $10 non-negotiable service fee will still be charged. BPL will continue to send regular notices of overdue items to patrons and will work with a materials collections agency to assist in recovering non-returned library materials.
